9. Garbage Disposal
Ahh the garbage disposal. A necessary appliance, but a perpetually dirty one. Its main job is to grind up food so that it easily exits your sink. But food can be smelly and can remain in your disposal until the next time you use it. You can purchase garbage disposal cleaner beads, but they are very expensive. So, make your own! All you need are lemons, vinegar and some ice cube trays. Chop up lemons, and place pieces in ice cube trays. Then fill each cube with vinegar and freeze. The next time you need to resolve a sink smell, toss a few in and grind away!

10. Dishwasher
You may think your dishwasher is inherently clean, because it’s sole purpose is to clean dishes. But is your bathtub perpetually clean? Mine isn’t! If you notice that even Jet Dry isn’t working and your dishes are continuing to come out spotty, your dishwasher may need a good rinse of its own. Pour about a cup of white vinegar into the base of your dishwasher the next time you run a load. Add your usual dishwashing detergent and dirty dishes like usual. The vinegar will work to remove buildup from both your dishes AND your dishwasher. A win win!

11. Dishes
Over the years, our dishes take a beating. If you have light colored dish ware, you may notice what looks like cracks under the top layer. Don’t throw them away! They may just be in need of a deep clean that your dishwasher may not be able to handle. All you need is a very inexpensive bottle of Bar Keepers Friend (you can find it here at Lowes for less than $3) and a sponge. Work the cleaner into your plates and watch as the cracks disappear!

12. Cast Iron Skillets
I love my cast iron skillet, but I seriously hate cleaning it. I have to be careful cleaning it in the sink because I don’t want it to chip my porcelain sink, and I never feel like it’s truly clean because you can’t use soap. If you feel the same way, then all you need to do to get your skillet looking clean again is to pour a tablespoon of cooking oil and some course sea salt. Scrub with a cloth and then wipe clean. Finish by seasoning with another layer of oil and you have a clean skillet!
