There comes a time when you actually are childless and partnerless. Sure, you could lounge around all day and do absolutely nothing, a rare occasion. But you can also take the time to do a little something for yourself and make it an enjoyable day. Not that your days with kids aren’t awesome, but every mama needs a break now and then. Most of us end up running errands or going to appointments when we have time without our kids, but every once in awhile we need to take care of ourselves and do something just for us. If you find yourself alone, then check out our list of fun things you can do, all by yourself!
1. Go To A Movie
I can’t even remember the last time I went to a theater, much less by myself. When my husband and I actually have time and a sitter to go to a movie, we don’t usually end up seeing the newest romantic comedy that I would like. So if you have time, go the movies in the middle of the day and watch WHATEVER YOU WANT. No demands, no one stealing your popcorn, and no Frozen. Just you, the newest romcom, and an enjoyable date with yourself.
2. Cook Any Dinner You Want
I used to enjoy cooking more than I currently do, because I have to cater to multiple demands from my picky eaters. If you’re in the same situation, and find yourself alone, cook that meal that you’ve missed! It may be something simple like tuna noodle casserole that you haven’t had in years because you’re the only tuna lover in the house, or something gourmet that you don’t want to waste on someone who may not eat it.
3. Shop Without Interruption
Shopping also used to be more enjoyable than it is. Now I spend 1 second looking at the item I’m considering buying, to my 3 seconds of glancing around making sure my daughter hasn’t run off. Sans children, you can shop with ease and peace of mind. You will probably be more efficient too!
4. Take A Class
There are tons of classes out there that can meet your many interests. It can be a 1 day painting and wine class, or a long term foreign language class. Whatever makes you happy and that you’ve been putting off, just do it! You will look forward to your regularly scheduled “me time” and be able to put your creative side of your brain to good use.
5. Take Yourself Out To Dinner
I think everyone should be comfortable eating alone, and I believe that even more now that I rarely get to do it! Take yourself out to dinner and just relax. You can catch up on your social media, read a book or just sit and BE. Do whatever it is you want to do during dinner, but never get to.
