2. Use Obvious Consequences
Sometimes we try and get a little too creative when it comes to “teaching our kids a lesson” and our toddlers miss the point. Use obvious consequences when they are acting out. If they incessantly throw a toy you’ve told them not to, take the toy away! If they are refusing a nap, remove a fun activity you had planned post-nap time. However you choose to discipline, you should make sure it’s somehow connected to whatever action they are doing so they see why they are being disciplined. This is an area where time-out doesn’t always work because it may not be connected to what they are doing. However this method does demonstrate that the punishment “fits the crime.”
