5. Fruit Juice
The juice industry has many of us fooled into thinking we are consuming a healthy product because they are made with fruits and vegetables. While the ingredients themselves may be healthy, the process by which the juices are made are not. To ensure a long shelf-life, store bought juices are pasteurized which means they lose many of their vital nutrients that make them a welcome addition to your diet. Companies also add preservatives to make sure you juice is still good by the time you buy it off the shelf. Juices are also high in sugar, and when you consume large quantities, your body will go on a “sugar high” and retain fat. Essentially, you are consuming far more calories in juice than you ever would simply by eating the fruit your juice was made from. So save yourself the fat, and just eat an orange instead!
