You may be thinking to yourself that there is no possible way to use rope as part of home decor and make it look beautiful. Rope is not usually something that we display in our homes as a piece of art, but usually something we use outside in our garden or garage. Well, now a days, rope is being incorporated more and more into home decor whether it be for a rustic home, a nautical themed home, or a just because it’s interesting and unique. There are some great ways to use rope in your home that will not only look beautiful, but will make your room look stunning. Here are 8 great ways you can incorporate rope into your home design.

1. Striped Vases

You can never have too many decorative vases. These rope vases are perfectly simple, but still completely beautiful. The rope adds a little texture on an unexpected piece of decor that’s usually made out of glass or ceramic. It’s rough texture is the perfect juxtaposition to the soft flowers creating an unexpected harmony. These vases are a great craft project that can easily be done by even beginner crafters. All you need to do is wrap the rope around the vase with some glue and you’ve  got yourself a beautiful vase.

2. Rope Curtain Rod

If you’re searching for a completely unique look for your curtain rod try using a rope instead of an actual curtain hardware. This one of a kind look would be stunning for any room, but it would certainly be the perfect touch for a nautical or rustic home. It’s also an incredibly easy way to hang curtains and much less expensive than curtain rods, too! You can’t get much better than that.

3. Drawer Pulls

If you’ve got a piece of furniture that has some old, outdated hardware, but you don’t want to spend a fortune buying new stuff, replace the hardware with some rope! You can buy a large amount of rope for only a few dollars, so not only will it be inexpensive, but it’s also an easy project that can be done in a day. It’ll give your furniture a unique look while still being completely functional.

4. Rustic Lampshade

A couple years ago I had a really ugly lampshade on one of our lamps that I absolutely hated. I looked and looked for a replacement, but could never find the right one. I wish I would have seen this rope lampshade back then! It’s a great way to cover up an ugly and outdated lamp shade and for cheap, too! Simply wrap the rope around the shade while gluing it down and before you know it you’ll have a rustic, modern looking lampshade. Pair it with a glass or clear lamp base so that the “heavy” look and texture of the shade doesn’t overpower the lamp.

5. Starburst Mirror

I’m a sucker for anything with a starburst shape. It’s classic, modern, and adds an interesting element to your decor. This starburst mirror made out of a frameless mirror and some rope is a great way to get that stunning, modern look without spending too much money. Starburst mirrors can be extremely expensive and this is a great alternative that achieves the same look. It may be a bit more complicated and take more time that some of the other rope crafts, but the end result is well worth it.

6. Rope Letters

If you’re looking for a unique piece of decor for your wall, try making some letters out of rope to spell out a name or word. Putting words on walls as decor is very trendy right now in home design and this craft would update your decor in minutes. It would look great in a western themed nursery or even in a rustic home. The soft curvature of the lettering makes an interesting contrast to the rough rope. Have fun with this one as you can mold your letters to look however you’d like.

7. Hanging Shelves

An interesting way to display items in your home is to create some hanging shelves. These shelves are made simply out of wood and are suspended using ropes and hooks. How simple, and yet, so creative! The final look is very creative and looks extremely interesting. It’s much more eye catching than a plain floating shelf. You can easily create this craft in less than a day and have your home decor looking fabulous in no time.

8. Rope Basket

I am constantly looking for great baskets to use as storage for either my son’s toys, blankets, shoes, etc. I have a hard time finding ones that I like, and when I do find one that I like it ends up being more expensive than I want to spend. If you’re having the same problem, a great remedy is to make your own rope basket! Don’t worry there is no weaving involved, just gluing your rope around a dollar store laundry basket – how simple! It’ll allow you to create your own design without spending too much money. That sounds like a great combination to me.

1. Unique Rope Wall Art

Creating unique wall art using rope is an innovative way to add texture and interest to your home. By simply tying natural rope into different shapes or patterns, you can create eye-catching pieces that serve as great conversation starters. For instance, consider making a large geometric design or a whimsical representation of natural elements like waves or trees, which can cater to varied aesthetics like rustic or bohemian.

This DIY project not only allows for personal expression but also can be customized in size to fit any wall space. You can also enhance these pieces by painting the rope, incorporating mixed media elements like wood or canvas, or varying the thickness of the rope used. The result is a stunning display that showcases your creativity while providing a warm and inviting feel to your decor.

2. Decorative Rope Coasters

Rope coasters are a functional yet stylish addition to your home that can protect surfaces while adding character. By wrapping a cork base or any sturdy material in thin rope, you can create personalized coasters that match your specific decor style. These coasters not only look chic but also provide a rustic charm that aligns beautifully with farmhouse or coastal themes.
