Halloween is one of the best days of a child’s life. Dressing up in their favorite character’s costume, spending time with friends on a school night, and endless amounts of candy are all a perfect dream for a child. However, it can be a parent’s worst nightmare. The combination of children running around at night, getting candy from strangers, and being out on a school night is a recipe for disaster in a parent’s mind. Despite the risks that Halloween may come with, it can be very safe if you monitor your child and their activities. Here are 9 ways for you and your children to stay as safe as possible this Halloween.
1. Cross The Street Safely
One of the most important things your kids can do while trick or treating this halloween is to learn how to cross the street safely. This includes obeying traffic lights and only walking when they see “the walking man” on the signal, crossing only at crosswalks, and looking both ways a few times before crossing the street. Doing all of these things will help you see cars better, will help drivers see you better, and will ensure that you’re being as safe as possible when crossing the street.

2. Adult Supervision
Children under the age of 12 should never go trick or treating by themselves. They should always be accompanied by an adult. Don’t let your kids go inside anyone’s home, make sure you’re with them at all times, and be sure to keep your eye on them as much as possible so they won’t be hit by a car or taken by a stranger.
3. Trick Or Treat In Groups
If your child is over 12 and mature enough to trick or treat without supervision, be sure that they travel in groups. It’s not safe to go alone or even with one or two other people. The more people there are around to see and catch something bad that might happen, the better. You’ll want as many eyes on your child as possible if you’re not going to be there.
