This morning around 4:30am, I was awoken by the sweet sounds of rain. Living in Southern California in the midst of a major drought does not warrant me the usual enjoyment of much drizzling. When my 2-and-a-half year old sees rain, it’s like a trip to Disneyland. All that got me thinking about fun ways we can enjoy nature’s showers, especially since we have no idea when we will see it again (Come on, El Niño!). Since it’s still not exactly cold, but muggy instead, I just know we can get some good rain play in and not have to worry about nasty colds. So if you’re looking for ways you can enjoy the rain, then check out this list!
1. Put On Your Bathing Suit & Go Play In The Rain
My daughter loves getting in her bathing suit and I can’t imagine her being any more excited than putting it onto the play in the rain. If your rain isn’t quite cold yet, get everyone outside and enjoying the wet weather in their swimmers. Or heck, just got the regular clothes! Your kids will love it! Just be sure to grab some towels and keep them by the door when it’s time to come in.

2. Make Some Music
I’m sure you noticed noisy the rain can be when you hear it pounding on the street and your patio furniture. Your kids will get a kick out of making their own music by bringing some of your pots and pans outside. Let the rain do its work and make some sweet melodies with your kitchenware as the large drops splatter down.

3. Puddle Jump
There’s never a better time to get your feet wet then puddle jumping during a rainstorm. This is the one time you won’t care how wet your kids get, and they will love every minute. You can even make a contest to see who can get the wettest from jumping in puddles.
