14. Sheets Aren’t Curtains
Sure, good curtains are expensive, but don’t they look so much nicer than that spare sheet you might currently have over your window? Spend the money for good curtains. Not only will they make your room look neater, they’ll keep out light and heat during the day to help lower your energy bill. Plus, they make sleeping in on the weekends a much nicer proposition.
15. Banish Dust Bunnies
Dust bunnies love bedrooms — we spend hours trying to banish them from the rest of our house, but we often neglect our sleeping rooms because they’re not usually seen by guests. Dust mites love big fluffy upholstery and blankets, making the room utterly miserable for anyone allergic to dust mites.
Clean up the dust, and consider reducing the surface area for dust to collect on by removing knickknacks and other curios that tend to become dust magnets.
16. Light It Up
Bright white lighting can be good for the main parts of your house, but skip the garish light sources for your bedroom. Go for subtle, soft lighting for rooms where you sleep — save the bright light for your bathroom/vanity. If you need a brighter light source for picking out your clothes or dressing, consider multi-function lamps that offer both soft lighting and brighter light when needed.
