10. Your Nipples Will Hurt Very, Very Bad
If you decide to breastfeed let me just warn you now: it will hurt. And by hurt I mean it will be extremely painful. You always hear people say that if your nipples hurt from breastfeeding then you’re not doing it right. That is so not true. All of the nurses that came to help me breastfeed couldn’t believe how well I and my son were doing at the whole breastfeeding thing. They said that we were doing it perfectly, but then I would tell them that my nipples were hurting and they would act so surprised because we were doing it right. Just be prepared and know that it is going to hurt for the first few days. After your nipples get used to all that sucking, though, the pain will go away.
11. Nipple Cream Is A Must
Since your nipples will be in so much pain you MUST have nipple cream to use. It will literally save your life. It will help heal your skin if it cracks and it will keep the area nice and moist. You don’t even have to use nipple cream, in fact you can use coconut oil if you want something natural. Just be sure it’s safe for the baby since they will be putting their mouth on the area to eat.
12. Nursing Pads Will Save Your Life
We’ve all seen the funny skits in movies where a woman’s breast starts shooting out milk because she’s lactating from breastfeeding. I always thought that was just a myth, but to my surprise you really will leak a lot of milk, in fact it may even shoot out at times. If you aren’t using nursing pads in your bras pretty soon everyone will be able to see all the milk on your shirt from your lactating nipple, and let’s be honest, no one wants to see that. So take my advice and use nursing pads. They will save you a lot of embarrassment and a lot of extra laundry from washing all your bras and shirts.
