3. Make it A Game
Kids are kids and they know the difference between what’s fun and what isn’t. A good way to practice safety and listening skills is to make your directions a game. When we go for walks, I’ve taught my daughter to stop at the end of every driveway in case a car is backing out. We say “Stop,” look both ways and then “Goooooo” and she can run across safely. You can also play “red light green light” so they practice listening, without even realizing they are learning safety too!
