5. Say What You Want
As adults, we know it’s not safe to walk in the street, but our toddlers may not. Sometimes we think it’s obvious and get frustrated when our kids run into traffic or take off when we’re trying to pay at the register. Be clear and use positive, short phrases about what behavior you need. Don’t say “No running” but state “I need you to stay close to the shopping cart while we are in the store.” Kids often just hear the first thing you say and if “running” is part of the phrase you can bet they will take advantage.
