6. Promises to Keep by Jane Green
I love British “chick lit” and Jane Green is one of the queens. While most of her novels are light-hearted and very funny, she likes to keep us on our toes with Promises to Keep. I’m not going to lie- this book had me crying my eyes out, so if you’re in the throes of postpartum depression, leave this one off your list for awhile. You will follow the story of 2 very different sisters and their reunion because of a horrible disease: cancer. There’s nothing quite like the bond of family nor the impact that cancer has on everyone it touches. You will not only read a great book, but Green gives all the recipes that her characters concoct throughout the book. That will cheer you right up!
