What kid doesn’t love playdough? There are endless amounts of possibilities you can make and do with playdough and provides hours of entertainment for your kiddos. Instead of going out and buying play dough from the store, make your own at home and have your kids help make it! It’ll be a fun DIY project that they can join in on. This recipe is easy and inexpensive which are always bonuses when doing a DIY project. It ends up just as smooth as store bought playdough, the colors are gorgeous, and it smells incredibly good because it’s made with Jell-O! If you want to learn how to make your own, follow along with our tutorial.

First of all, here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this playdough:

-1 Cup flour + 1/2 cup for kneading

-1 Cup warm water

-2 TBSP Salt

-2 TBSP Cream of tartar

-2 TBSP Cooking oil

-1 Packet of 3 oz. Jell-O

Throw all of the ingredients into a medium saucepan, except or the 1/2 cup of flour that you will need later.

Mix all of the ingredients together and mix until most of the lumps are gone.

Turn the stove burner on medium heat and cook the mixture while stirring continuously until it thickens. This will take about 5 minutes, so be patient. You’ll know when to stop stirring because it will get really thick and smooth and you won’t be able to stir it anymore.

Once the mixture is done cooking, place it onto a floured cutting board and let it sit for about 45 minutes to cool. If it hasn’t cooled enough it will stick to your fingers, so make sure to give it enough time to cool down.

Once it’s cool, you can start to knead the dough. As you knead it, add flour as you go until it is no longer sticky. I used about 1/2 a cup to 1 cup of flour. Just depends on how thick and sticky your mixture is.

Once it’s no longer sticky it’s ready to play with! Give it to your kiddos and let them have hours of fun with it.
