4. Put Something In Their Bed That Smells Like You
Baby’s have a very strong sense of smell, especially when it comes to their mother. Your child may sense that you are gone because they simply can’t smell you and that might upset them. Giving them something that smells like you to sleep with might actually make them feel more comforted. You could put the shirt that you were wearing during the day in their crib, or keep their blanket close to you all day long so it smells like you when they go to bed. This will trick them into thinking that you are close by which might help them sleep better.
5. Make Sure They’re Comfortable
Before you put your child down for bed, make sure they and their environment is comfortable to sleep in. Make sure they have a fresh diaper, that the room is a comfortable temperature, their clothes don’t have any tags that are scratching them, that their clothes aren’t too tight or too hot or too cold, etc. All of those things would bother you if you were the one going to bed, so make sure that your child is accommodated for, as well.
6. Use A Sound Machine
As adults, we can’t stand it when there’s background noise when we’re trying to sleep, but babies actually like having a little noise. Remember, they just came out of the womb where there was constant noise. To help them feel more comfortable and “at home” when they’re sleeping, put on a little background noise like white noise, ocean sounds, stormy sounds, etc. This will also drown out any noises you may make while you’re still up cleaning, watching TV, or having friends over.
