When you’re a first time mom you can easily get very overwhelmed with everything you have to do to take care of your baby on top of all the other things you have to do in a day. It can also be difficult to know how to play with a newborn so that you and your baby can have some fun during the day. Just because a baby can’t move around much or interact that much with you doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t play with them and enjoy time with them. In fact, interacting with them is not only fun for both of you, but helps them learn so much about life. Here are 13 fun ways you can have fun with your new baby.

1. Read Books

Reading books is an activity that is not limited to any age. You can begin reading your baby books as early as the day they are born. In fact, it’s a great activity for new babies because they can sit in your lap or in your arms as you read to them. Even though they can’t focus on the pages and see the pictures, they will enjoy just hearing your voice and being comfortable in your arms.

2. Observe Nature

Fresh air is great not only for adults, but also for little babies. They will enjoy feeling the wind on their face just as much as you. Walk them around and show them different trees, plants and flowers. Talk to them and tell them what they are experiencing. If it’s cold talk to them about that, if the leaves are falling from the trees, tell them about that, etc.

3. Learn Body Parts

You can start teaching your child about their body as early as the first day they are born. Tickle or massage different parts of their body while telling them what body part it is. You can repeat this over and over again. They’ll love feeling your touch and hearing your voice and it will be fun for you to see their reaction as you touch different parts of their body.
