A sick child is no fun, especially when it’s an active toddler that doesn’t know how to slow down and relax a little when they aren’t feeling well. It doesn’t matter how sick my son is, he still wants to play with toys. It’s important for children to get their rest when they aren’t feeling well, but we all know that children don’t know how to relax. It’s almost as if that word isn’t in their vocabulary. There are, however, some activities that toddlers can do when they are sick that will help them to rest while still being able to play. We’ve gathered 9 great ideas for your sick little one to do when they aren’t feeling the greatest.
1. Read Books
On a day to day basis toddlers will usually choose to play with fun toys over books. The only time I can get my son to sit down and read a book is when he’s tired or not feeling well. Therefore, this is a great activity for sick little toddlers that don’t have energy to run around and play. It’s perfect to do while laying in bed or on the sofa. Enjoy the extra cuddles you may get while reading books with your toddler as well. It’s the perfect cuddling activity that’ll make your child feel better just knowing that their mommy is there to take care of them.
2. Watch YouTube Videos
There are tons of videos on YouTube for kids to watch from educational videos that will teach them about numbers, shapes, or colors to fun demonstration videos of toy trains or cars to cute animal videos. Watching YouTube videos is a great alternative option to watching movies when your child gets a little bored from watching their favorite movie for the tenth time. It’s a great sick activity because can relax on the sofa while looking at videos on the tablet or laptop. Just be sure to check that the videos are appropriate for your child to watch.

3. Build A Fort
When a child is sick, they end up spending a lot of time either on the sofa or in bed which can make it hard to keep there for a long period of time. They tend to get sick of sitting or laying in one place for too long. A great way to keep them entertained while laying on the sofa is to build a fort. It will entice them to stay there and relax their little bodies that need lots of rest. If you need ways to make it more interesting, pretend it’s a cave and bring in all their stuffed animals to sleep with them as well. They’ll love the extra company.
