2. Choices
One of the main reasons you start butting heads with your toddler is they now know they are their own person, and have an opinion on things they want to do, and those they don’t. They are fighting for control in the limited areas that they actually can do so. To help alleviate your struggles in communicating with them, offer them choices. That way they will feel like they are doing something they want to do, not something you told them they have to do. Be careful to give them choices you approve of, no matter which option they choose. If they don’t want green beans, then offer them carrots or peas. Don’t offer them carrots or a cookie, because clearly they’re not picking peas.
