4. Cranberry sauce
Cranberries are a northeastern fruit that’s ripe in the fall, giving it a presence at our Thanksgiving tables. While canned cranberry is a much more modern invention (and to be honest, I like it the best! There’s just something about that ringed roll of cranberries…), cranberries in their raw form could have been served at the first Thanksgiving. Although at that time, sugar was non-existent in America so it most likely was found in Native American dishes in its tart form.
